Recipe for the perfect Sangria or Tinto Verano, the perfect dinks to remind you of Spain

Did you know?

Sangria’s origins probably date back to the Middle Ages, during a time when water was unhealthy to drink and drinking fermented beverages carried a much lower risk of causing illness. During this time, people would mix wine, which was much lighter and less potent than what we are used to today, with spices such as cinnamon.

Make a Mojito, easy recipe

The word “sangria” comes from the Latin word for blood, thanks to the original sangria’s reddish hue, a result of the red wine first used to make it

Ordering a steak

Entrecot – This is sirloin, one of the tastiest cuts, but not always the tenderest. Lovely meaty flavour. entrey-cott

Solomillo – This one’s filet steak, almost always tender, with very little fat, but not super tasty, so it works well with a sauce. sol-oh-mee-oh

Lomo Alto – This is a ribeye. You don’t find it that often here, but it’s my favourite, well marbled and super tasty! low-mow-al-to

Chuleton – This is a huge steak on the bone. Not quite a T-Bone, but very similar. Great beefy flavour and barbecues beautifully. Too much for one person! chew-let-on

The Spanish tend to have their steak rarer than most other northern Europeans are used to, so when you ask for a medium, you’re very likely to get a rare steak. Here’s how to order:

Poco Hecho (little done) – This means blue or extremely rare. poko-etcho

Medio Hecho (medium done) – This would be rare to medium rare in most countries, so seared on the outside, with a red strip in the middle of the meat and some blood when you cut into it. med-ee-o-etcho

Bien Hecho (well done) – This will be equivalent to a medium, so some red meat, but no blood. bee-en-etcho

If you want your steak without any red meat and cooked all the way through, there isn’t really an equivalent in Spanish, so we suggest saying “Bien hecho, pero sin rojo,” which would be well done, but without red. bee-en-etcho-per-oh-sin-ro-ho

Most Restaurants here will also offer a takeaway service, and some will even have home delivery options via Glovo or Deliveroo and Just Eat,so you can enjoy your meal in the comfort of your own home, contact the restaurant direct for more details.

Spanish Breakfast

As we all know, breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

This country has one of the best cuisines in the world, including its traditional breakfast at 11 am. Before that, Spaniards only drink a cup of coffee or have a yogurt, or a glass of juice.

So, if you want to feel like a local, it’s time for you to take a look at the list of 4 top dishes, so you can start trying different but tasty new things at strange hours of the day.

The desayuno.

Bread with tomatoes

One of the most classic meals for the Spanish morning is toast with pureed tomatoes, a small touch of olive oil and a pinch of salt. It may sound plain, but it is nothing of the sort.

The taste of a fresh tomato that has been crushed and served on warm, crispy bread creates a delectable mixture of sensations inside your mouth, that really lets you know that you are now in Spain.

Tostada con Tomate

It’s important to remember to have a cup of coffee or a glass of orange juice with this dish, to make the experience complete and perfect.

Fartons with horchata

This is a large and soft piece of sugar-glazed bread, very typical in the Valencia area. You can’t talk about “fartons” without the “horchata” : horchata is a drink very similar to milk but it has a distinctive nutty taste, since it’s made from “chufa”, an edible tuba with similarities to both celery and nutmeg.

Churros with hot chocolate

Go to your nearest bar and ask for this amazing treat. A mixture of sugar and cinnamon wrapped up in 8-inch lengths of dough, you will never taste something more Spanish than this.

You will have to order it with a cup of hot chocolate.

Tortilla de Patatas

The ultimate classic and most delicious of all, the Spanish omelette. Ordering a “pincho” of tortilla in any bar feels like you’re asking for a slice of pizza. It’s made with eggs and fresh potato, ready to be served with a glass of orange juice or typical “cortado” and a piece of bread.
