This may come across as a bit racist, but it is in no means meant to, at the end of the day I myself am an immigrant here.

Today we went for Breakfast in what is heavily promoted as a British Pub/restaurant, the venue had loads of Union Jacks flying and a very ENGLISH menu. BUT........ NOT one member of staff was British, nor were they Spanish, and the venue is NOT British owned.

Do you think this is right or not? Should they be permitted to promote themselves as a British Bar?, or is it just a ploy to get the British into their venue?

I have to say that the staff were very pleasant, and the food was average and obviously NOT cooked by a British person, nor would I have ever considered it a RESTAURANT.

Indian restaurants, Pakistani owned. Very few Irish Bars are owned by Irish. I even know of one Irish Bar, that during the construction stage was planning to use the name the Queen Arms! They eventually used the name elsewhere. In general I think it depends how it presented. Does it give the impression of being English owned or English themed? If they get it wrong I think it is them who suffer. You are never going to think of that bar again as English and therefore not likely to go back as you expected it to be at least English managed. If the impression had been English themed, you would probably have been expecting your breakfast to be a little different and been happy enough.  More ...

Either way it cannot be described as a fraud, so how does that matter?  More ...

But then there are some English, who don't know that a Union Jack does not fly on land. It is only a Union Jack when flown at sea. It is the Union Flag on land. Furthermore the flag is often hanged upside down. Again a lot of British who don't know the difference. If you don't know the difference how do you know that these bars are wrong?  More ...
