British tourist numbers down in Benidorm

British tourist numbers down for the month of September.

The number of British tourists for September 2018 is down, this is being blamed on pressure from other destinations which generates a drop in air connections between the United Kingdom and Spain.

Benidorm has obtained a figure of negative occupation during the past month to fall 2.1 points, filling 91.5% of the squares of the city of skyscrapers compared to 93.6% that were occupied in September 2017, as reported yesterday from Hosbec. However, the fall of the English market during the past month, of about 4 points, is covered practically by the national market, which increases almost in the same proportion -3.3 points- and registers a 42.1% occupation.
In September this drop reached 7% compared to 2017. Hosbec is already preparing to register half a million overnight stays less at the end of the year.

All this change in the tourist market is reflected in the air connections. for example, last September, a total of 26,210 airplane seats were reduced, from 346,000 to 319,000 seats for the Alicante -Elche airport from different cities in the United Kingdom.

The traffic between the  Manchester  airport and Alicante airport has been the one that has suffered the most. Thus, of the 54,510 seats that were reserved for Alicante in September 2017, one year later, the figure has been reduced to 42,484 tickets. A total of 12,026 fewer places in one of the main tourist emitting cities for Benidorm.

“The number of “pernoctations” (A unit of one person/night) of British falls by 420,000 so far this year..
One person staying ten nights equals 10 “pernoctaciones”.
two people staying ten tights equals 20 “pernoctaciones….
So the figure of 420,000 would equal 21,000 couples …staying for ten nights as an example.” Thanks to Dave Roland of Fresh FM for the explanation.

There is some good news – The political party in Valencia that were pushing for the tourist tax to be introduced in OUR area…(Podemos) has now withdrawn its demands for the tax. (for the moment at least!)
