La Vuelta Espana Cycle race comes to Benidorm

The Vuelta a España is an annual multi-stage bicycle race primarily held in Spain, while also occasionally making passes through nearby countries. Inspired by the success of the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France, the race was first organised in 1935.

Running from Saturday August 24th to Sunday September 15th 2019 , the 74th Vuelta will be made up of 21 stages and will cover a total distance of 3272.2 kilometres from Torrevieja finishing in Madrid. 

On Sunday, August 25, the second stage of La Vuelta’19 will leave the Parque de Foietes and after touring some of the main roads of the urban center of Benidorm will move to the Poniente area, to connect with the Terra Mítica vials until reaching the municipality of La Nucia. From there, the runners of La Vuelta will face a stage of almost 200 kilometers that will take them through the interior of the province of Alicante to later return to the coast and finish in Calpe.

The warm and start will be in the Foietes area. From there, around 1:00 p.m., the route will go to Beniardá Avenue and through Jaime I they will arrive at Poniente Beach, and then connect by Juan Pablo II and Mayor Eduardo Zaplana avenues with the CV-70 towards La Nucia; All of the route is routinely used by bicycle users and cycling enthusiasts on the bike lanes.

Also in the area of ​​Mercasa and the Parque de Foietes the Vuelta Park will be installed, which will offer recreational activities for the little ones and will function as the epicenter of the great sports party of this second stage.

Dont forget! This Sunday some traffic disruption is sure as the second stage of Spain’s “Vuelta” national cycle race sets off from Benidorm to Calpe.
(For example the CV 70 from Benidorm to La Nucia village will be shut to cars from 11am “Ish”)
