The first fire started around 23.30 on Calle Londres where several palm trees caught fire, strong gusts of wind fanned the flames, local firefighters intervened quickly to prevent the burning branches falling onto nearby awnings. Police closed the roads and diverted traffic for a short period of time whilst the fire was brought under control.

The second fire caused much more damage and started around midnight in the storage area of the Paco Martinez suitcase and handbag shop situated on Calle Doctor Pérez Llorca, (pedestrian zone) the building was completely destroyed, firefighters confirm there were no injuries.

Local police and three firefighters from Benidorm Park were in attendance. When the firemen arrived, the area had already been cordoned off by the Police. The fire caused a stir in the place, arousing the curiosity of hundreds of people passing by who were in the area for the local fiesta events.

Damage was also caused to adjoining premises due to flames, smoke and water.

According to firefighters, the cause of the fire is still unknown.
