My Back Pages Roger McGuinn, Tom Petty, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, George Harrison & Bob Dylan / Dylan.
If anyone hasn't heard the last one you have missed something very special. If that isn't musical genius at its best then I don't know what is

I always thought Love Hurts was Roy Orbison originally, but wikipedia tells me you are correct. Everleys though never released it as a single, only as an album track. Roy Orbison released as a B side in some areas and as a double A in other areas. I'm not that clever, I got that all from Wiki.   More ...

It's been rather quiet on here lately so here's another one for discussion.
    10 favourite female vocalists.
    Here's mine.

    Ann Wilson
    Stevie Nicks
    Linda Rondstadt
    Kate Bush
    Cher
    Emmylou Harris
    Debbie Harry
    Bonnie Tyler

A lot of the others sound similar. For me the female voice does not have the same distinction the men have. But to add another 9 in no particular order.

      Reba McEntire
Sandy Posey (vastly under rated and spent a lot of her career doing backing vocals for others)
Dolly Parton (not so much for her voice but as an overall talent, Singer, Songwriter, Musician, Business Woman)
      Janice Joplin
      Mama Cass
Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey need mentioned on vocal ability alone, but I hated them singing. It alwasy seemd like they thought their voice was more important than the song.
I'll agree on the above list with Stevie Nicks, Instantly recognisable.
Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris, I also agree with. I'm wrecking my brain trying to think of the name of a thrid singer who used to do backing vocals for both of them. The lady also had solo albums that both Ronstadt and Harris did backing vocals on. I'll write the name down when I remember it.

One a closing note, here is a video I love, now that I know the story behind it. Carol King revealed what was happening here during an interview once.

I never could stand listening to Aretha Frankin. Like Whitney and Mariah, she over sings everthing and she thinks the song is about her. Only differnce is "I think" she is massivlely over rated. An example to the emperors new clothes. Everyone else says she's good so she must be. Listen to her 10 minute version of Amazing Grace. Rating by critics as the best ever performance of the song. In truth it's poison.

      Anyway ...

According to Carol King, in this video, it was supposed to be an equal performace between the women. Aretha Franklin stated to sing over the top of the others and it starts to irrate Celine Dion. You can see on her face she is not pleased. Suddenly she has had enough and looks straight at Aretha Franklin and hits a note Franklin will not match. Look close, you can see the others laughing. Franklin actually makes two attemps to hit the note and fails and the song ends with her shrugging her shoulders. She knew she got her ass handed to her that night.

Miley Cyrus (trust me on this one watch backyard sessions version of Jolene)

Not in any order, though Beth Hart really does take some beating, if anyone could it would have been Ann Wilson back in the day.

All these ladies have prefect voices. No tricks no electronic magical boxes. What they sang in the studio was brilliant but even better live, and yes Miley Cyrus has one of the best voices of this modern era. I didn't include Dolly, because vocally the others have a huge edge.

I could probably name 100, women like Lizzie Hailstorm one omg voice

You mention names here that I'm not familar with. I know who they are but have never listend to them really. The Miley Cyrus mention does not actually surprise me. Although again I have never listened to her much, I doubt if she got to where she is on her Dad's name alone. As for Ann Wilson. Yeah, I forgot about her. Heart's version of Stairway to Heaven performed at the Kennedy centre in front of Zepplin is one of my favoriite videos. I go back to it time and time again. David Cox have a listen if you have not heard it, I'll add the link. Also features John Bonham's son on the drums.

Derek Yeah that is likely the best live cover of a song ever, in my very humble opinion

It's very rare in my opinion that an original classic can be bettered but tonight I heard something that I think has achieved it.

Dont for get the most most famous cover artist and band was Elvis and the TCB. And few criticise Elvis's version of Bridge over Trouble Water, I think it takes a stunning song and just overcooks the song. Disturb are very close to over cooking Sound of Silence, they just pull it off the brink at the end

On the subject of covers one of my favourite albums is Dylanesque by Bryan Ferry. His version of Make you feel my love blows Adele out of the water.
One for the rockers is Under Cover by Motorhead.
Their rendition of Heroes is brilliant

I am a huge Motorhead fan. Even though these days I look more like the Widower from the film Up rather than the hard drinking, leather and denim clad rocker of my youth, well not that long ago, oh go on 40+ years ago lol 😂😂😂  More ...
