Hi everyone , so enjoyed my time in Beni last December , coming back this winter I think, we enjoyed the old town and trips to alicante, altea , and a little forage to the noisy end to see the neil diamond tribute , although elderly we do enjoy a bit of a galavant , and thinking of a quick walk around the strip, but on one of the facebook pages for benidorm, hearing some horrendous stories about horrific actions of bouncers, and the last thing we need at our age on a holiday is to watch people getting beat up, surely this is not openly happening , wondering if we should just stick to poniente and old town, we are relatively newbies so any advice welcome, I knwo you get problems all over but it does seem to be getting really bad according to others

The claim, "I wasn't doingHaving worked on the strip as an entertainer for over 14 years, I can confirm there is always two side to every story. The claim, "I wasn't doing anything wrong" is always nonsense. There is a particular problem around this time of year (April, May) when the strip gets busy with Stag parties. It is common to find one in the group who wants to show his friends how tough he is, and under the impression that bouncers in Spain would be too concerned about a claim against them to actually do anything. That is not the case. I can honestly say I have never seen a bouncer start anything in 14 years. They are not afraid to finish it though. In truth, just as there is always the occasional bad apple, the same can be said of bouncers and there are one or two who will take things a bit too far, but they are in the minority. Most of the guys out there are decent blokes who will be more concerned for your safety and will want to be sure your experience in their bar is a pleasant one.

Having said all that, it is not a reason to avoid the strip. You seem like an intelligent man, and it is not difficult to walk up and down the strip and avoid large groups of drunks and find the bars where people are in just to enjoy a shows and have a good night. They are easy to spot. The decent clientele will be outside having a smoke and chatting with the bouncers. Enjoy your holiday and enjoy everything Benidorm has to offer.

You can read about some incidents here the facts and the fiction  https://www.benidormseriously.com/benidorm-bouncers

People also forget that the rules here in Spain are not the same as those in the UK ie if you annoy and swear at a bouncer in the UK they can not do anything, but here they will react.
