The law which forbids the sale of dogs, cats and ferrets in general pet shops throughout Spain is now fully in force. The law came about when it was published in the Boletín Oficial del Estado (BOE) on the 29th of March 2023, but there then started an "adaptation period", which finished at midnight on Sunday 29th September.
From this date only certain people such as breeders that are officially registered and authorized with the government, can sell dogs, cats and ferrets. From this date only certain people such as breeders that are officially registered and authorized with the government, can sell dogs, cats and ferrets. Pet shops which display or exhibit these animals face fines of between 50,001€ and 200,000€, depending on the severity of the offence.

Derek commented on this post about 5 days agoGood news, for the fourth month in a row, inflation fell again in Spain, the rate is now at just 1.5%. The fall is due to drops in the prices in food, fuel and electricity. This rate is the lowest for the last 3.5 years.Comments (1)

Perhaps the new law that will attract most attention is the one that will ban the sale of single use vapes in Spain, plus the use of flavoured vapes in refillable, and generic packaging of conventional tobacco. All this is part of a general attempt to dissuade younger people from starting the habit.

The much publicised "possibility" of a ban on smoking in private cars, is to be downgraded to just a "recommendation" to not do so. He also announced that very shortly the provisional laws to authorise the use of cannabis will be issued for public scrutiny, after the idea was approved by a sub committee of congress.
