The red skies as pictured are caused by suspended dust from the deserts of Africa, and known in Spain as a "Calima". Not that unusual in Spain in the hot summer months, but rare in the cooler months....Except for the past few years, when we have experienced them in the winter too.

Scientists have been trying to find out why, and how these are now appearing in winter. There have been cases for example where the snow on the high mountains of our ski resorts has turned red from the dust!

If you have noticed a huge "tented village" on your way into Benidorm and wondered what it is?? Its a fun weekend organised by the "Peñas" of Benidorm. It sort of translates into "social clubs," who are camping out for the weekend, and raising money for the towns main November festival at the same time.

There will be 4,800 adults and children enjoying the weekend on the site, from 202 "peñas" occupying 291 tents. They will have music, food and all sorts as entertainment, but due to the current prohibition, BBQs are totally banned.
