CASH IS KING - YES OR NO?
Many of us still prefer to use cash, but get called old fashioned, I believe that cash is best and if we don't use it we will lose it, but so many prefere to use cards.

I think Spain has the right attitude - here it is illegal to NOT accept cash (up to a certain amount) and wish other countries would take note.

There is nothing more irritating than going back to the UK and having to use a card to pay a measly 60 pence at a parking meter.

Using a card the banks know exactly where you are and what you are spending on etc meaning they will end up having so much more control.

Can someone please tell me why they would want the world to be controlled by the banks.

Other than having to use them for online purchases what are the advantages of using cards over cash in shops/bars etc?

In my eyes CASH IS KING.

ScenariThere are more criminals similar to Joe Blogs, than there are criminals similar to Pablo Escobar, so I will ignore that remark as irrelevent.

Scenario 1. Joe Blogs is walking down the street with £10 in his pocket. Tommy Takeall dips him and gets the £10. The £10 now belongs to Tommy Takeall. There is no way to track it down, nor is it worth police time for such a small amount.

Scenario 2. Joe Blogs is walking down the steet with a card in his pocket. Tommy Takeall dips him and gets the card. Tommy Takeall now must find a way to get money from the card before Joe Blogs notices it missing. Even if he does manage to use it, the bank are likely to refund Joe Blogs. Meanwhile in trying to use it he will create a record of where and when. With security cameras or records of bank transactions etc, if is very difficult for him to make use of it without risking being caught. As I recall he is not Pablo Escobar with control over banking security. In short, one well trained police officer could solve this crime from his desktop computer.

End result. Fewer and Fewer Tommy's, More Safely for Joe Blogs to walk the streets with his card. Reduction in crime = Police offers with more time to spend on more serious crime allowing much larger crime to be targeted.

60p for a parking meter. Is it easier to "tap" or to fix the hole in your pocket from having to carry change for parking meters?

Once there is no cash at all, the banks can charge what they want, and guaranteed these charges will keep going up, NOT down, and these charges work both ways for the buyer and the seller, so it will also affect smaller businesses, rather than the large chain stores etc, so it will be goodbye to the smaller enterprises.

As for the crime element in cash, criminals will always find a way around things, such a mining crypto.......

I can't see your concern regarding a third party being able to track where you go and how much time you spend there. Unless on course you don't carry a phone. I'm sure you have already seen how google show you adverts on the internet based on the things you search for. Your privacy is already heavily compromised.

Bank charges will have to reduce their charges to reach the target of a totally cashless society, but it is not just their target so there will be governmental intervention on charges. The Crypto Currency issue is already being used within crime, but with a cashless society effectively all currency becomes Crypto Currency and therefore currency such as Bit Coin will become more transparent. BUT having said all of that, we are debating Crime V Privacy.

Lets remove both from the debate to get back to the initial discussion.

If your privacy where still protected, but there was no change to the crime rate. Would you still prefer to carry around coins and cash or just one card with all your transctions easily monitored by yourself. Have you ever found yourself saying "I'm sure I had another tenner in my purse" but never found out where it went?

I never worry about banks or anyone else knowing where I am or what I am spending money on. I have nothing to hide.
In my opinion we should be able to choose. I don't like it when a shop or restaurant only takes one or the other.

There are a lot of changes that we don't like simply becasue we are not used to it. Those of you born in the 20th Century (Note I have always been here ) have experienced more change in the world in your lifetime than any other genration before you. You have learned to adopt and adapt. Change is improving efficiency.

You no longer need to swap your eggs for some carrots. You can swap them for coins or notes and then swap those for potatoes instead, when the person who wanted your eggs didn't have potatoes... efficient.

You no longer need to call the operator for a long distance call. You can now just dial a few extra numbers ... efficient

You no longer have to stop watching television at 11.30pm or wait for that new movie to reach the cinema in your town. You can watch when it suits you ... efficient

You no longer need to wait over a week for a reply to your letter. You can send your letter and get a reply a minute later ... efficent.

Back to the eggs! You no longer need to carry those notes and coins around with you. You just record the transaction with the tap of a card ... efficent.

Instead of complaining, embrace the efficiency ... Efficient!

Yes most things can be done on the internet via there websites, or app, but how many apps do you want on your phones, and sometimes you do need to speak to a real person. People are losing jobs on a daily basis as local banks are shutting, and believe it or not, not everyone has a mobile phone, or access to the internet........ My 85 year old mother for example.

As more and more banks shut, it is the elderly that are suffering, sometimes a weekly trip to the bank or supermarket was the only contact they had in the outside world.

All personal touches are slowly disappearing, and most of that is down to the lack of CASH being used these days.

Since launching this debating society, we have not had much success. However, for the few that enjoy a debate, I am happy to play devils advocate for any discussion. Make your statment and I will deliberatly take an opposing view, (regardless of my genunine opinion) See if you can beat me down to submission.
