According to the National institute of economics, Torrevieja is the town with the seventh biggest number of properties registered for tourist use in the whole country! There are 26,829 beds available in 6,300 legally registered properties.

Torrevieja along with most other places is intent on clamping down on illegal untested rentals, but the town hall is complaining that although the companies like Booking and VrBo will remove any illegal rentals from their pages as soon as they are found, that the American based company Airbnb doesn't even answer complaints. The report states that tourism authorities are demanding that action is taken to ensure that legislation is complied with.
