• Our province of Alicante is currently suffering its worst drought in 33 years, From October only 65 litres per m2 of rain has fallen, when just a few years ago it would have been an average of 264 litres per m2 over that same period.

The emergency plan which has just been approved by the authorities contemplates a number of water saving measures, including the possibility of the banning of filling swimming pools if this drastic situation continues. (It is perhaps more likely to be private pools, rather than those belonging to hotels "IF" implemented.) Domestic water supplies to Benidorm are guaranteed, due to the linking of the two nearby reservoirs to the town, and a link to a desalination plant near to Alicante.
