The average retirement pension in Spain is now at 1.439,11 euros a month, 4,8% more than a year ago, and 26% more than the amount of 5 years ago. State pensions here are calculated in a different way from perhaps other countries, with the monthly amount obtained being in direct relation to the amount a person has worked (and contributed) during his or her lifetime.

They can also (because of different contribution rates) vary from region to region. Examples being the average state retirement pension in the Basque region is 1,549,41 euros, while in ours of the Comunidad Valenciana is only 1.155,16 euros. Highest pensions go to retired coal miners, their average retirement pension is at an average of 2,798,7 euros a month.
