How busy is December in Benidorm?  The first two or three weeks are generally quieter with fewer tourists here than other weeks of the year, some bars and restaurants will take this opportunity to close or reduce their opening hours for a while, to recuperate after the busy summer season and November Fiesta week, you may even find some hotels closed, a few venues will remain closed until next season, but most will reopen for Christmas and New Year.

Jail Rock - Closed until 1st of February

Insomnia - Closed until February, no date announced

Early December will see the New Town area (the Strip and Square) fairly quiet, but even with some venues closed, there is still be plenty of bars open providing entertainment, just check the Whats On Guide, when you are here to see who is performing when and where, and it is never difficult to find somewhere suitable to eat.

Just a few days before Christmas itself, Benidorm suddenly becomes very busy, with flocks of British Tourists arriving, venues will start to re-open and everywhere gears up for the busy Christmas period, which official runs until 6th January.

Clientele: The clientele you'll encounter in December can vary. While Benidorm is known for its popularity among British and other European tourists, the demographic can shift during the off-season. You will find a mixture of travellers, including couples, retirees, and some families, you will also find many Spanish Nationals here, enjoying Benidorm during the festive season, in general you will find a  more mature crowd compared to the party scene of the some other months.

Things to do in December - While Benidorm is generally quieter early December compared to the peak summer season, there are still plenty of activities and things to do during your visit. Here are a few suggestions:

Enjoy the Beaches: While it might not be swimming weather, you can still take peaceful walks along the beautiful beaches of Benidorm, the mild temperatures make it a great time for a leisurely stroll.

Explore Old Town: Benidorm's Old Town, is a charming area with narrow streets, historic architecture, and a vibrant atmosphere. Explore the quaint shops, tapas bars and restaurants.

Tapas alley, famous for its amazing amount of high quality tapas bars, will even have the red carpet rolled out during the festive period.

Hiking and Nature: Benidorm is surrounded by natural beauty, including the Sierra Helada Natural Park and the Puig Campana mountain. Consider going on a hike or nature walk to enjoy the scenic landscapes.

Golf: Benidorm is home to several golf courses, and the mild December weather can be perfect for a round of golf.

Visit surrounding towns - December is the perfect month for exploring some of the many nearby towns and villages, such as Albir, Altea, Denia, La Vila Joiosa, Alicante or even spend a day in Valencia, local transport links are very good with plenty of cheep buses, local trams or the train.

 22nd December El Gordo– All over Spain people never stray far from a TV or radio as the Christmas lottery is drawn over a period of many hours. Everybody in Spain buys tickets for this lottery in the hope of winning El Gordo (the fat one).  Besides the big three prizes there are thousands of smaller prizes shared by people all over Spain. You can buy Spanish Christmas lottery tickets online or from one of the many Loto shops and many of the bars also offer tickets at a slightly higher price.

Christmas in Benidorm - Christmas is a special time here in Benidorm and there is always lots going on for both children and adults, including concerts, parades, festive markets, and fireworks and even an ice rink.  Celebrations tend to start early December when Christmas lights will be turned on and the official Christmas Square opened. Events and RED Days in December

Red days in December - What is a red day? This is a national holiday, similar to a Bank Holiday back in the UK, so some supermarkets will be closed or open for much shorter hours, banks, offices and schools will be CLOSED.

6th December - Constitution Day (Día de la Constitución)

This public holiday is always celebrated on 6th December and marks the approval of the Spanish constitution by the Spanish people back in 1978.

8th December - Immaculate Conception

Immaculate Conception is a Roman Catholic holy day and a public holiday in Spain. The holiday falls on 8 December every year and is often thought of as the beginning of the Christmas season in Spain.

It is a Holy day of Obligation. This means that all Catholics attend mass on this day.

New Year's Eve December 31st How better to end the year than at a traditional Spanish New Year's Eve party. Free champagne and live music provide the entertainment. Don’t forget your 12 grapes which are eaten one by one on the strokes of midnight giving you luck in the year to come.  Benidorm also celebrates the UK new year, with more bells, chimes and drinks at midnight UK time, so twice as much fun here in Benidorm.

Ang Ela - It’s still warm, less busy and rowdy, but plenty still open. 

Tim Wiberg - Early December is quiet, some of the bars including some of the big ones take a break but plenty are still open.  If its sunny temperatures can still be warm in the day but at night it is cold.  Overall its a much more relaxing time to come with a chilled out atmosphere we love it then.
